We need YOU to donate a few hours a week of your time to help make a positive difference in our community. We provide FREE tutor training and we supply all the teaching materials. We have rooms for tutoring at our location, or you and your student can decide to meet at a public location.




As we recruit new volunteer tutors, we provide on-line training sessions through the Proliteracy Education Network. 

Tutors are asked to take free on-line training courses BEFORE tutoring their students. Go to http://proliteracyednet.org

Click on Online Courses located in the upper right corner of the page. A list of all the courses offered will appear, simply follow the prompts to enroll. Each course takes about 20 minutes to one hour to complete. Upon completion, please print out your certificate of completion. Then Call us at 501-354-8123 and schedule an appointment.

Required courses for all volunteer tutors:

- Orientation to Volunteering

- Volunteering in English Language Learner Literacy Classes

- Principles of Adult Learning

- Working with Adult Literacy Learners

For English as a Second Language (ESL) tutors:

- Volunteering in English Language Learner Literacy Classes

- Culture and English Language Learners



The AmeriCorps program is a service opportunity. The 900 hour half-time service term begins Oct.1st and ends Sept. 30th of the following year. The members duties include:

1. Helping their host council recruit, train and support volunteers who will provide tutoring services. 

2. The member will work with various organizations within the community to recruit volunteers and students.

3. The member will become a certified tutor in Basic Literacy and/or ESL instruction.

4. The member will assist the literacy council with intake and assessment and will tutor adults needing Basic Literacy and/or ESL instruction.

The minimum qualifications for the AmeriCorps volunteer is that he/she is a United States citizen, a United States National or a lawful permanent resident alien and at least 17 years of age.

The benefits include a bi-weekly taxable living allowance, and upon successful completion of your term you will receive an education award from the National Service Trust. This education award can be used to pay for future education at qualified institutions and/or to pay off qualified student loans within a seven year period.
